Dilemma?!

A lot of dilemmas in a day from the time I get up - whether to get up or sleep for some more time; whether to walk to work or take my car, etc. Some people even have a dilemma of life and death! But the dilemma that I came across is something which doesn't surface unless given some thought. The dilemma is between Religion and God; about being religious or theist devout. Is religion the path to God or is God the path to religion? A religion may or may not be bound by one God or even many Gods. Religions try to give a shape or rather a definition of God; but the ultimate definition of God would probably have to be found by the individual. Some may even have multiple definitions! (This sounds interesting; especially when this can be used by an individual to influence the various kinds of people with whom he would interact) 

Some people may end up being both religious and devout, which I would say is a success of that religion. But, a lot of people tend to forget the basics when it comes to God/Religion. A non-religious thing done in the name of God may or may not make a person either religious or devout. "It's been said that Buddha and Jesus would laugh or cry if they'd known what was done in their name" [The Man from Earth]. Throughout the history, the teachings of great immortals have been overshadowed by unmindful acts of mere mortals over centuries. But, would there be an end to the quest for God? Would it be more dangerous than the never-ending quest for God?

Palindrome dates!

One of my friends reminded me of speciality of today's date i.e. 11-02-2011 (British and Indian date format). It is a palindrome! I started digging more into it and wondered how common are these palindrome dates. In the format considered here, we could see that there were none starting from 12th century to 19th century!! And in this century i.e. 2001 to 2100, these palindrome dates would only occur only on 28 days in the months of February (in various years like 2001,2002, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2030, 2031, 2032, etc). In the next century, these palindrome dates will occur for 31 days in the months of December (in various years).

For this century the probability of a day having a palindrome date is 28/(36500) = 7.67e-4.

Conclusion: Palindrome dates are not very common!!
